We are fishermen!!! It was a great day on the high seas:)
Impressive huh? Only 4 of them are ours, stupid Game and Fish laws. Everyone was allowed 2 Halibut, one less than 28 inches, and one any size bigger than that.
Les catching the first of 8 fish that day.
The boat was really nice, plenty of room for the 8 of us inside the cabin and outside to fish.
Yup, I fished too. I caught 3 and we kept 2 of them.
It was seriously easy. The crew baited our hooks and we left the pole in that holder you see there. All we had to do was wait for the end of the pole to dip and reel it in. The crew did the rest. It was cold and the boat did roll a lot. I took seasick pills and felt fairly okay out there. We left the dock at 7:20am and returned at 3:30pm.
This is where they keep the fish and when we were underway, those fish sloshed back and forth pretty darn good. Tenderized by the time we got back.
I believe we traveled around 25 miles
away from Homer. Had to get into some open water to find the bigger fish. We actually had a harder time trying to fill the limits of everyone for the smaller of the two fish. Had to keep throwing back the bigger ones.
The King Pin
We had 2 crew and 8 guests onboard. The boat was roomy and very nice with bathroom and lower bunk room to store our stuff.
This is a skill I'd like to possess.
Watch how fast she is.
Using the Food Saver we brought from home we packed 31 packages of about 13 ounces each for a total of around 26 pounds of freshly caught halibut.
Add that to the 16 pounds of salmon we bought in Valdez we are in great shape for healthy Alaskan meals.
